Your Music Magazine 3, so excited for you to see it!!! It’s been another year of hard work on this next magazine. It takes me six months to shoot the magazine, but after that there is a bit more work that goes into it. I get to write all the captions, scan the pages, lay it out, and do a tiny bit of design work. I am slowly learning to love the design aspect of it. Here is the finished product!
This is the camera that shot it all. Well, I actually used two cameras – a Canon 6D and a Canon 5d Mark III. I like the 6D because it has wifi capabilities. Oh third camera, I use a GoPro sometimes too!
I store my images on Western Digital hard drives, and then basically put them is this toaster looking doodad from StarTech.
Within those drives I organize my images by date. It is easy and works best for me. So it goes date, and then it also says the city I was in. It doesn’t work as well when I just stay home and shoot in San Diego, but when I travel it works well.
After I sort through all the images, I find my favorites and go through and write stories and thoughts on each one. This part takes me the longest, probably three days of working straight. It takes me a while to write. Then I have to go through and have a friend spellcheck everything, then go back and edit… rescan or Photoshop. It is a lot of work. Good thing Mark helps me out.
After I finish writing I have a friend who helps me organize and lay everything out perfectly. Then it goes to the printers where they print me a proof. I went in to collect it on Halloween and they were all dressed up. Good people!
This is me with the finished product! So stoked on how it came out- we got it right the first time (which is a first).
This is the first page of text in the book. Yes it took 66,840 photographs to get this book, where I used about 58 images. Or .0172% of the images I shot. I am picky. Here is a quick little preview of some pages from the magazine.
I am really happy with how everything came out and that is why I feel so comfortable promoting it so much. Sometimes I create images I am not stoked on, and I am hesitant to even post. They just don’t make me feel good. But this magazine is everything I love, front to back – all of my personal favorite images.
So if you like what you see, think about picking up the new mag. If it is not your vibe, no worries, just appreciate it from a far hopefully. This is me visually celebrating the fact I was able to live my dream of being a photographer for another year. Here is to the next.
